A British football fan who claims he was falsely tortured and incarcerated in the United Arab Emirates in 2019 while on holiday there watching Asian Cup matches has sued the new Interpol chief. Ali Issa Ahmad has been authorized by the High Court in London to take legal action against Major General Ahmed Nasser al-Raisi, accused of complicity in torture and appointed head of Interpol last November. Ahmad's troubles began when he wore a football shirt with the Qatar logo when he attended a match between Qatar and Iraq at AlNayhan Stadium in Abu Dhabi on January 22, 2019. He was approached by officials and said he was racially abused by them and ordered to take off his shirt. The following day, he was arrested again by officials and said he was severely assaulted before being arrested and imprisoned.
